Kitchen Countertop Trends

Benefits of Quartz Countertops

Upcoming decor trends show that soft neutral tones are growing in popularity. Many homeowners now prefer understated countertops resembling the look of marble or limestone with less movement and pattern. This makes quartz countertops an excellent choice for your kitchen or bath. Quartz comes in a variety of different patterns and colors, giving you beautiful, luxurious options for monotone colors. While resembling the look of natural stone tops, it requires minimal maintenance.

As a kitchen remodeling expert, we also recommend quartz countertops because their strength and durability. Quartz counters are made by combining 93% natural quartz stone with 7% resin binder and some colorant. This creates an extremely hard stone that is stronger than granite or marble. Quartz won’t easily crack or chip. The surface is non-porous unlike granite, which minimizes the worry of stains from wine, acidic products, coffee, and oils. Because of it’s non-porous surface, it is easy to keep your countertops relatively bacteria free.

Benefits of Granite Countertops

Granite, which is 100 percent natural, is still popular choice for countertops. It’s mined from quarries all around the world, cut down to a manageable size, and then polished to a fine finish. No two granite slabs are a-like giving it a custom, luxurious look. Pattern, coloration and the movement of granite is unique on each and every slab. How cool is it to have countertops that are one of a kind!

Granite is also strong and durable. It is, however, porous, which does require some maintenance. With granite countertops, you will want to seal your countertops every one to two years. The process is relatively easy – no different than cleaning your countertops on a daily basis.  You simply apply a spray on sealer.  Let it sink into the granite for a-while and then wipe away excess.  Don’t let sealing your countertops scare you, if you want the unique characteristics that granite can offer.

So the granite vs quartz battle? The final decision is based off of overall design vision for kitchen or bathroom remodel.  Are you looking for the “wow” statement countertop that granite can offer?
